3 credits in two weeks-yes studio projects and assignments on-the-go

For most of you this course will count as your interdisciplinary credit 3807-for others a 4000 level elective.  If unaware of the course credit you have been signed up for, please check with Dana Myers to make sure the credit you will receive is what you need for your particular tracking.  While in Ireland we will do studio work and make/consider art while traveling. Since we will do a great deal of traveling, many assignments will be about portability, travel, site-specificity and storytelling.

There will be a number of one day assignments as well as self directed interdisciplinary projects.  Most assignments will be open ended in terms of media and will make use of our explorations in the landscape, culture, travel and Irish folklore as inspiration.

We will talk more at our April 24th meeting about particular student interests and curriculum.

In the meantime, visit the Burren College link for studio facilities.  We will be assigned a group studio area with 24/7 access as well as the ability to reserve other state of the art facilities such as the sculpture shop, photo darkroom, computer lab, lecture hall (for evening irish film screenings) and we will be able to make full use of the college library.  The only college I believe we are sharing time with is a small group of students from Northeastern University so we should have more than adequate access to facilities, tools etc.  The web link below does a nice job of highlighting facilities at the Burren and indicating the equipment available to us.

Work?

I can't wait for this trip, but I was telling a friend of mine about this trip and they asked what class we're getting credit for/doing and I realized that it haven't even crossed my mind yet. Not that I'm worried, as I have complete faith in Bethany and Sean as professors, but what are we going to be doing at the Burren College in terms of media or process of working? What tools do we have at our disposal (say, compared to our beloved wood shop and metal shop at FAC). Just curious.
